Passengers on a sailing vessel made an urgent distress call when their boat overturned in rough waters hundreds of miles from shore. Five individuals found themselves stranded 260 nautical miles off Cape Hatteras in North Carolina after their boat began taking on water, according to the Virginia Coast Guard. The Coast Guard received a distress call from the Magic Bus crew, prompting a rescue operation that involved deploying a helicopter and ship to locate and retrieve the group from a life raft.
All five individuals were safely rescued and reported to be in good condition after being picked up from the water with the assistance of the Coast Guard and a large warship. The Cutter Angela McShan and aircraft crews were mobilized for the rescue mission. The helicopter crew successfully recovered all five individuals from the life raft and transported them back to the Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City.
During the rescue operation, footage captured the sinking boat and the orange raft being approached by the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter. This incident occurred shortly after a separate rescue mission where passengers from the sinking catamaran Boca de Yuma had to be saved by naval officials while on a day trip from the Mein Schiff 1 cruise ship to the Dominican Republic.
