EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the increasing prevalence of scams that continue to target individuals. Recent data highlights a concerning trend of significant financial losses due to cybercriminal activities in the UK. Through dynamic strategies, scammers are continuously evolving their methods to deceive people into divulging sensitive information.
The updated Scam Guard feature is now accessible to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for a nominal fee of £2 per month. While some may view this as an additional expense on their already burdensome bills, EE assures customers that the enhanced protection it provides is well worth the investment.
Since its inception in 2024, EE’s Scam Guard has effectively thwarted 169 million fraudulent and spam attempts. With the upgraded version, EE anticipates doubling this figure over the next year, significantly bolstering security measures for its users.
At the core of the revamped Scam Guard is AI Triple-Lock Protection, a robust trio of digital security components powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. These features include Safe Email, which offers proactive scam shielding for email accounts round the clock. Additionally, Safe SMS employs advanced AI algorithms to detect intricate scams in text messages, ensuring real-time protection and peace of mind for users. The inclusion of Safe Web utilizes AI technology to safeguard customers while they browse or shop online, preemptively blocking malicious websites to prevent any potential harm.
The updated Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, a valuable tool enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious texts, emails, websites, or QR codes to promptly receive safety recommendations. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring functionalities vigilantly track any unusual activities across a user’s online presence, issuing swift notifications for immediate action.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of adapting to the escalating fraud landscape, where AI-driven scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated and challenging to detect. EE remains committed to protecting its customers by continuously innovating and enhancing security measures through initiatives like the improved Scam Guard service.
In light of the prevailing cyber threats, EE’s proactive approach underscores its dedication to providing customers with advanced cybersecurity solutions to mitigate risks effectively.
