A young mother, 23, passed away after engaging in a drinking competition during her birthday celebration at a nightclub. María José Ardila, a mother of a 10-month-old baby, was out with friends just before her 24th birthday. The group participated in a series of six drinking challenges, including consuming various alcoholic beverages in a short amount of time. María, from Cali, Colombia, was at a local nightclub called Sagsa when the tragic incident occurred. There was a monetary prize for the winner of the challenge, which the victim’s family mentioned had increased during the event.

As the night progressed, María reached the final challenge but could only complete three out of eight shots. She collapsed on the floor after expressing discomfort with the last drink. Her friends attempted to get her to a hospital but struggled to find transportation. María experienced convulsions and difficulty breathing before being taken to a nearby hospital, where she was resuscitated multiple times.

Despite efforts to save her, María’s health deteriorated, leading to brain death. Her family ultimately made the difficult decision to remove her from life support. Authorities in Cali expressed concern over the incident and announced plans to inspect alcohol-related establishments to ensure safety protocols in place.

The nightclub, Sagsa Bar, offered condolences to María’s family and pledged to cooperate fully in the investigation. The circumstances surrounding María’s death are currently under investigation.
