Björn Andrésen, famous for his role as Tadzio in Death in Venice, has passed away at 70 years old.

The cause of his death has not been disclosed. His daughter, Robine Román, honored her father in a heartfelt social media post.

In a message on Instagram, the English translation of the Swedish caption reads: “Be calm. No more harsh words. There’s little left of me. Do not weep for me. Here, the fire within me has extinguished. I no longer distinguish what is me and what is not.”

Hailing from Stockholm, Andrésen also starred in the 2019 film Midsommar. His upbringing was marked by challenges, with his mother’s suicide when he was 10 and his unknown father. Raised by his grandparents, his grandmother encouraged his pursuit of acting and modeling.

His role in Death in Venice brought him global acclaim, with film historian Lawrence J. Quirk praising his depiction as frame-worthy art. Following the Cannes Film Festival, Andrésen was lauded as “the most beautiful boy in the world.”

Despite his looks, Andrésen avoided roles that relied solely on his appearance. He spent significant time in Japan, becoming a cultural icon and model. Apart from acting, he was a skilled musician and part of the Sven Erics dance band.

In 2021, he was featured in The Most Beautiful Boy in the World, a documentary exploring his life post-Death in Venice. That same year, he appeared in Agatha Christie’s Hjerson as Oscar, one of his final roles.

Married to poet Susanna Roman, Andrésen tragically lost his son Elvin to sudden infant death syndrome at nine months old. Devastated by his son’s passing, he held onto the belief of reuniting in the afterlife.
