After receiving an urgent call, law enforcement officers encountered a 14-year-old girl who was severely undernourished to the extent that they initially mistook her for a much younger child, estimated to be between six to eight years old. Subsequently, the true extent of her distressing circumstances came to light.
The adolescent, whose identity remains undisclosed, resided in a trailer with her family. Her dire condition was unveiled after her father, Walter Goodman, contacted emergency services on August 21, reporting that his daughter was vomiting, unconscious, and alarmingly emaciated.
Medical professionals later diagnosed the girl with severe malnourishment, hypothermia, acute hepatitis, pancreatitis, multiple organ failures, as well as bruises and pressure sores. Shockingly, she weighed a mere 38 pounds, significantly below the expected weight range of 84 to 160 pounds for a girl her age, according to standards set by Children’s Wisconsin.
Goodman, aged 47, together with his wife Melissa Goodman, aged 50, their daughter Savanna LeFever, aged 29, and LeFever’s partner, Kayla Stemler, aged 27, have all been apprehended on multiple felony charges of prolonged neglect of a child, following a prolonged period of severe neglect as uncovered by investigators.

It was reported by WISN that Goodman mentioned he surveilled and interacted with his daughter via a webcam in her room, stating that he contained her in her bedroom under surveillance. Allegations suggest that Goodman claimed his daughter had autism, justifying her eating and sleeping habits, despite medical staff noting her enthusiasm for food options during her hospitalization.
Digital evidence revealed alarming threats made by Goodman regarding his daughter in text messages, where he implied withholding food as a form of punishment and expressed wishes of harm towards her. Additionally, Stemler purportedly communicated with Melissa Goodman about using physical violence towards the child.
The victim conveyed to medical personnel that her father disapproved of her eating habits, expressing fear of his reaction. Furthermore, she had not attended school or engaged in outdoor activities for an extended duration.
Authorities have confirmed the victim’s stable condition and ongoing recovery with relatives. Outagamie County Assistant District Attorney Julie DuQuaine confirmed the girl’s progress, highlighting her weight gain and improvement post-hospitalization.
