New distressing footage has surfaced depicting what seems like the lifeless bodies of two deceased orcas floating in a deteriorating tank. However, the reality behind the scene is even more heart-wrenching.

In anticipation of a new law prohibiting orcas from performing in shows, the Marineland of Antibes in France closed its gates to the public back in January. Despite the closure, the desolate park still houses a few inhabitants.

Concern has been mounting for Wikie and Keijo, a mother and son pair abandoned for almost a year in bleak and neglected surroundings. Recently, drone footage captured by photojournalist Seph Lawless has revealed the tragic fate of these magnificent creatures, moving many viewers to tears.

Initially believing the orcas to be deceased, Seph shared via Instagram that the mother orca seemed lifeless beside her son in a closed marine park in France. However, to the surprise of many, the orcas showed signs of life, interacting with the drone and performing as if seeking connection and freedom.

Seph described the emotional encounter as the orcas moved gracefully in the water, evoking memories of their past performances. The videos of their plight have garnered immense attention, prompting the French government to take action.

Despite most of the park’s animals finding new homes, Wikie, aged 23, and Keijo, aged 11, along with 12 bottlenose dolphins, remain in a state of uncertainty. Concerns have been raised about their deteriorating living conditions, potentially jeopardizing their health and survival.

Efforts to relocate Wikie and Keijo to other facilities have been met with obstacles, raising fears about their future. The urgency to address their situation is evident, as time may be running out for the stranded orcas.

Experts warn that the orcas may struggle to adapt to the wild if released and could pose risks to other marine life. Proposals for their retirement in a safe and natural environment have been suggested by conservation groups to ensure their well-being and a semblance of a free life.
