“Céline Dion Shares Health Battle Ahead of Paris Residency”

Céline Dion is gearing up for her upcoming five-week residency in Paris, sharing more insights into her health battle and treatment strategies. The renowned Canadian singer recently disclosed in an exclusive interview with Harper’s Bazaar that she had been experiencing symptoms related to stiff person syndrome for 17 years before receiving an official diagnosis in 2022. This rare neurological autoimmune disorder caused severe pain, hindering her ability to walk on some days and requiring high doses of Valium for relief.

Stiff person syndrome is a progressive condition that tends to worsen over time, affecting only a small fraction of the population. Its symptoms include muscle stiffness and painful spasms triggered by stress, loud noises, or sudden movements. While there is no specific approved treatment for the disorder, various therapies can assist in managing its effects.

Prior to her diagnosis, Dion would offer explanations like coughs or sinus infections to conceal the extent of her pain when canceling shows. She expressed feeling a sense of dishonesty toward her fans, acknowledging their unwavering support that enabled her to pursue extensive treatment following her diagnosis.

Since canceling her remaining shows post-diagnosis, Dion has not performed publicly since the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, she is determined to return to the stage in September. Her recovery routine involves a combination of medication, physical therapy, vocal therapy, and immunotherapy. Additionally, she engages in 90-minute Pilates sessions thrice a week and ballet classes twice a week in preparation for her upcoming performances.

Described as constantly in motion and reluctant to stay still for fear of stiffness, Dion considers her recovery and the prospect of performing again a miraculous opportunity that she deeply values. She emphasized the importance of appreciating the present and being grateful for the opportunities at hand.

Feeling strong, excited, and slightly nervous, Dion is ready to make her comeback with a series of 26 concerts scheduled for her Paris residency starting from September 12 until May 29 next year.
