“Montreal Police Apprehend Murder Suspect in Niagara Falls Case”

A suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16 has been apprehended in Montreal and is set to be extradited to the city in Ontario.

Josta MacNeal was taken into custody by the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal on Thursday in connection with the death of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, as confirmed by the Niagara Regional Police Service. MacNeal is facing a second-degree murder charge.

Initially reported to be 30 years old, MacNeal was captured, while the other suspect, Maaroof Bangi, identified as 23, remains at large.

Niagara police have issued a warning that Bangi should be considered dangerous due to the absence of a recovered firearm.

A police news release advised the public not to approach Bangi if spotted, but to promptly contact 911. The police service also urged Bangi to surrender and seek legal counsel.

According to the initial report by Niagara police, the two suspects went to an apartment building on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls just before 9 p.m. ET on July 16 and shot Snoddon.

Snoddon was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

    Targeted Nature of the Shooting

Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted incident rather than a random act, although caution is advised to the public.

Earlier on, Niagara police released video footage of the two suspects and sought information from the community regarding their whereabouts.

Initially, it was reported that the suspects were driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV.

Subsequently, Niagara police disclosed that the fugitives were spotted in a 2016 Toyota Camry with specific damages, last seen on Highway 45 in Hastings, Ont.

Earlier reports indicated that a Mazda CX5, believed to be transporting the suspects, had been recovered. Detectives suspect the fugitives may attempt to change their appearance to evade capture, such as altering hair length and color, makeup, clothing styles, and facial hair.

Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), as per police instructions.
