The Federal Court has mandated the disclosure of previously undisclosed sections from a study conducted in September 1986 for a significant federal commission investigating war crimes. Federal Court Justice Simon Fothergill, in a public announcement today, directed the government to reveal the redacted parts of the research concerning the integration of suspected Nazi war criminals into Canada post-World War II.
B’nai Brith Canada has long advocated for increased transparency regarding the report authored by investigator Alti Rodal. In February 2024, Library and Archives Canada unveiled additional sections of the report following a request for information from B’nai Brith.
Despite this release, certain segments, particularly those detailing the involvement of American intelligence agencies in aiding the settlement of Nazi collaborators in Canada, were still withheld by Library and Archives. Fothergill dismissed the government’s argument that divulging this information would compromise Canada’s international relations.
