Mayich, 21, was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL draft. His player profile indicates that he participated in minor hockey with the Hamilton Huskies from 2016 to 2020 before joining the 67’s.

According to reports from the OHL, Mayich was admitted to the hospital while preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 season in Arizona on August 20. The St. Louis Blues have expressed their prayers for Mayich’s recovery, with Doug Armstrong, the team’s president of hockey operations, conveying their support and well-wishes as Mayich undergoes medical treatment in Arizona.

Arizona State University, where Mayich is listed as a player, confirmed that a student from the hockey team collapsed during an outdoor morning exercise session and is currently hospitalized. The university refrained from disclosing the student’s identity and stated that an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.

In a statement, OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford extended thoughts and support to Mayich, his parents, and his entire family. The Hamilton Steel Hockey Club, formerly known as the Huskies, previously celebrated Mayich’s milestones in his hockey career, including his signing with the Ottawa 67’s in 2021 and his selection by the St. Louis Blues in 2023. Mayich had been a part of the Huskies organization since he was nine years old.
