Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to make a historic attempt this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month. The snooker legend has confirmed his participation in the World Seniors Snooker Championship, where he will compete against both current and former players on the senior circuit. O’Sullivan, aged 50, is known for his competitiveness and will be vying for his eighth World Championship title in his 34th consecutive appearance in the spring.

In addition to his regular World Championship bid, O’Sullivan will also make his debut at the senior tournament in Yorkshire. The event is scheduled to take place from May 6 and will run for five days. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has expressed excitement over O’Sullivan’s participation, labeling him as one of the sport’s most successful and captivating figures.

Joining O’Sullivan at the tournament will be other esteemed world champions such as Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty. The roster also includes notable players like Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and reigning Seniors British Open Champion Joe Perry.

Jason Francis, the Chairman of the World Seniors Snooker Tour, highlighted the significance of O’Sullivan’s inclusion, emphasizing the boost in ticket sales and overall interest in the event. The relaxation of rules by the World Snooker Tour now allows professional players aged 45 or older and ranking in the top 64 to participate in the veterans circuit.

O’Sullivan, a seven-time world champion, will be aiming to add to his impressive title count. His last victory in 2022 tied him with Stephen Hendry’s record, and despite falling short in the previous year’s tournament, O’Sullivan remains a dominant force in the sport. Hendry himself has expressed admiration for O’Sullivan’s achievements, stating he would prefer O’Sullivan to secure an eighth world title, citing the uniqueness of winning at a young age as his own proudest accomplishment.
