Samsung has revealed its latest lineup of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially posing a challenge for Apple. The tech giant from Korea introduced three new devices, led by the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Departing from its previous models, Samsung’s new “passport-style” design features a wider screen when unfolded, providing a more tablet-like experience on the 7.6-inch display for activities like streaming movies and gaming on the move.
This launch is significant as Apple is anticipated to launch its first foldable iPhone later this year, with rumors hinting at a similar design choice. Samsung’s early move may give it an edge over its rival.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 boasts being the thinnest and lightest Fold yet, weighing just 180g. It offers enhanced durability with an improved hinge and features like Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for better outdoor visibility.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, the device includes a 4,800mAh battery that charges rapidly. Photography is supported by a dual-camera system and Gorilla Glass protection, while Samsung’s latest AI tools enhance photo editing and productivity.
Starting at £1,699, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now available for pre-order, offering a more affordable option compared to the rumored higher-priced foldable iPhone from Apple.
Aside from the Fold 8, Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling the previous Fold 7 but boasting upgraded features such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a superior camera system with enhanced low-light performance and 8K video recording capabilities.
With a starting price of £1,899, the Fold 8 Ultra offers a stronger and refined design, a larger battery, and improved functionality.
Completing the new lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, retaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design while becoming thinner and lighter. The device features enhancements in performance, camera capabilities, and a more robust aluminium hinge.
Priced at £1,149, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 caters to users looking for a compact yet powerful foldable smartphone option.
