She recalled going to school in thin clothing, feeling cold due to the lack of suitable winter wear.

Scarlet highlighted the challenges they face every year due to outgrown and worn-out coats, especially as they grow older and the cost of new coats rises. Their home also faced heating difficulties last winter, with mold issues and cold drafts worsening the situation for her mother’s health.

She also mentioned her involvement with Barnardo’s, where she attends cooking sessions to learn how to prepare affordable and nutritious meals for her family.

Recent research indicates that one in seven parents may struggle to afford warm clothing for their children this winter, with an estimated 300,000 children in the UK potentially lacking a winter coat. The study also revealed concerns among children about the adequacy of their current winter clothing to keep them warm.

As temperatures drop, the UK Health Security Agency issued a Cold-Health Alert for certain regions, underscoring the importance of adequate winter clothing.
