“Dr. Amir Khan Reveals Rapid Sleep Technique”

NHS General Practitioner and resident doctor on ITV, Dr. Amir Khan, has revealed a scientifically proven bedtime technique that he assures can facilitate quick sleep for those struggling with insomnia. In the UK, about one-third of adults encounter sleep problems, and surveys indicate that approximately 30% of adults suffer from poor sleep quality.

These statistics underscore a significant portion of the population not receiving adequate rest. Data even shows that nearly 75% of adults fail to achieve the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Factors such as stress, anxiety, irregular sleep schedules, engaging in stimulating activities before bed, noisy environments, or uncomfortable sleeping conditions can contribute to difficulty falling asleep.

Various lifestyle choices like consuming caffeine or alcohol late in the day, as well as health conditions such as chronic pain or sleep disorders, can further impede quality sleep. Nonetheless, there are strategies and techniques available to aid in improving sleep quality.

While common suggestions like avoiding caffeine and screens before bedtime, listening to soothing music, drinking chamomile tea, or practicing traditional methods like ‘counting sheep’ are well-known, their effectiveness varies based on individual needs.

Dr. Amir Khan has highlighted a technique, termed cognitive shuffling, which he asserts has been clinically proven to induce rapid sleep onset. According to him, individuals whom he has recommended this technique to have reported positive results.

Dr. Amir Khan, an NHS General Practitioner based in Bradford, works full-time and is a partner at a local medical practice. Apart from his television appearances on programs like This Morning, Lorraine, and Morning Live, he imparts medical advice and information on various platforms.

Recently, Dr. Khan launched a podcast titled No Appointment Necessary, alongside co-host Cherry Healy. In their episodes, they discuss health issues, life hacks, and relationship challenges, including the importance of quality sleep and methods to ensure proper sleep duration.

During a recent podcast episode, Dr. Khan introduced viewers to cognitive shuffling as a beneficial technique for falling asleep quickly. By engaging the brain in a low-stress, random activity like mentally going through the alphabet, this method can divert the mind from stressful thoughts and promote relaxation.

Comments from viewers expressed gratitude for Dr. Khan’s recommendation, with many attesting to the efficacy of cognitive shuffling in aiding their sleep. While not a universal solution, cognitive shuffling has shown promise in assisting individuals in achieving better sleep quality and faster sleep onset.

Although not a primary treatment for chronic insomnia, early studies suggest that cognitive shuffling can help individuals relax before sleep, leading to improved sleep quality. By redirecting the mind from anxious thoughts to a simple, enjoyable activity, cognitive shuffling reduces mental noise, facilitating easier and quicker sleep onset.

A pilot study conducted in 2016 on cognitive shuffling, developed by cognitive scientist Luc Beaudoin, demonstrated promising outcomes in assisting individuals with racing thoughts in falling asleep faster and more effortlessly.
