The passing of the iconic musician Ace Frehley has sparked an investigation following the issuance of a toxicology report. The renowned KISS guitarist, who died at the age of 74 last week, had been on life support for an extended period after a studio accident resulting in a brain bleed. His family ultimately made the difficult decision to remove him from the ventilator.
A representative from the Morris County Medical Examiner’s office disclosed that an autopsy had not been conducted on the musician. Instead, a toxicology screening and an external body examination are currently in progress. While an official cause of death has not been determined yet, the medical examiner’s office indicated that it will be finalized in the upcoming weeks, as reported by TMZ.
Ace, a founding member of KISS alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, was well-known for hits like “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” He left the band in 1982 due to internal conflicts and substance abuse issues but later reunited with the group for a tour in 1996 before departing again in 2002. Upon his passing, his family expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing the profound impact of his loss and celebrating his enduring legacy.
Before his demise, Ace had reassured fans about his well-being following the accident that led to his hospitalization. Despite canceling his tour, he had initially expressed his desire to continue performing. However, subsequent medical complications forced him to cancel all remaining 2025 tour dates.
In response to Ace’s death, his bandmate Gene, in a joint statement with Paul, mourned the loss of the rock legend and emphasized his significant role in shaping the band’s history and legacy. The statement conveyed heartfelt condolences to Ace’s loved ones and fans worldwide.
