Ben Stokes recently suffered a severe black eye, breaking what is considered a fundamental rule for cricket coaches. The England cricket player shared an image of his facial injuries on Instagram, displaying a badly bruised eye, scratches on his face, and a bandaged nose. Despite the injuries, Stokes maintained humor by joking about the condition of the cricket ball that caused the mishap.
The incident occurred while Stokes was coaching at Durham’s indoor facility, where a young player accidentally struck him with a ball. Following the accident, Stokes was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. It was revealed that Stokes turned his back on the batter, violating a key coaching rule, resulting in the unexpected injury.
Despite the ordeal, Stokes displayed sportsmanship by reassuring the young player who hit the ball. His coach, Ryan Campbell, praised Stokes for his character and handling of the situation, emphasizing his positive qualities.
Stokes, who is recovering from a groin injury sustained during the Ashes Test, is expected to return to action for Durham and potentially participate in England’s upcoming Test against Australia. He remains committed to playing cricket until the 2027 Ashes series and is considering a future in coaching post-retirement. With a notable career of 120 Test appearances for England, Stokes continues to make a mark in the cricketing world.
