Carol Vorderman recently addressed comments made by Pete Wicks regarding his “crush” while opening up about her love life. The former Countdown star, aged 64, shared that she has been predominantly single for the past 15 years following her separation from journalist Des Kelly.
Having been married twice, Carol revealed in 2022 that she has shifted away from seeking monogamous relationships. Instead, she now prefers having multiple “special friends” for more casual arrangements, as per Wales Online. Although she didn’t disclose the exact number of such relationships during a conversation with Yours magazine.
Explaining her perspective, Carol stated, “I’ve had what I call medium-term boyfriends for a year or so, but I’ve essentially been single for about 15 years.” She emphasized her strong bond with family, friends, and her two children, expressing contentment with the love and support she already has in her life.
Reflecting on her romantic history, Carol’s first marriage at 24 to Royal Navy officer Christopher Mather lasted only a year, during which she admits to some unconventional antics during the wedding ceremony. Subsequently, she tied the knot with management consultant Patrick King in 1990 and had children before their split in 2000.
Following her divorce, Carol embarked on a five-year relationship with Des, which ended in 2006, with a brief reunion before parting ways for good. She now values the freedom and flexibility that come with maintaining special friendships rather than committing to a traditional partnership.
In a 2022 appearance on This Morning, Carol discussed her unconventional approach to relationships, highlighting her preference for living in chapters and embracing a freer lifestyle since turning 50. She also mentioned parting ways with two of her special friends, emphasizing a liberated and mutual understanding in those relationships.
Moreover, former TOWIE star Pete Wicks playfully referred to Carol as his “weird crush” on his podcast, expressing interest in spending time with her. Carol, appreciative of the compliment, acknowledged Wicks as “lovely.” BBC Radio One’s Melvin Odoom also expressed admiration for Carol, to which she humorously responded, “They all need to go to Specsavers.”
Throughout her journey, Carol Vorderman has embraced a non-traditional approach to relationships, prioritizing personal freedom and meaningful connections over conventional romantic partnerships.
