“Aldi Slashes Prices Across Stores, Saving Customers Big”

Aldi has recently slashed prices on a wide range of products throughout January. The discounted items span across various categories, including fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, household necessities, and personal care items.

Some notable price reductions at Aldi include red lentils now priced at 99p from their original £1.39, porridge sachets at 79p down from 99p, and organic steel cut oats marked at £1.99 from £2.19. Additionally, beef and pork Bolognese mince are now £4.49 from £4.79, pork and gammon joints reduced to £3.49 from £3.99, and Specially Selected British cheese on sale for £2.29 from £2.59.

Customers can also enjoy savings on other products such as sweetcorn now priced at 55p from 59p, and a pack of six large free-range eggs lowered to £1.75 from £1.79. Further discounts include 50p off on selected items like no beef flank steak now priced at £6.99 from £7.49, and vegetable pieces and meatballs at £1.49 down from £1.99.

The latest price cuts at Aldi amount to an investment exceeding £22 million aimed at providing customers with more affordable shopping options. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the supermarket’s commitment to consistently reviewing and reducing prices to offer the best value without compromising on quality.

In addition to the price reductions, Aldi has announced plans to open 40 new stores in the UK this year, with an investment of £370 million. This initiative is part of a larger £1.6 billion two-year investment strategy to expand Aldi’s presence in the UK, targeting a long-term goal of operating 1,500 stores.

Recent store openings in locations like Kirkintilloch, Eastbourne, Fulham Broadway, and Deeside have contributed to Aldi’s growing market presence. Furthermore, Aldi’s commitment to providing affordable options was recognized when it was named the cheapest supermarket in 2025 by Which? consumer rights magazine, holding the title for ten out of 12 months, with only a 77p average monthly price difference compared to Lidl.

In December, Aldi maintained its position as the most budget-friendly supermarket, where a basket of 68 items cost an average of £123.60. Lidl closely followed, with an average cost of £123.70 for both members and non-members of Lidl Plus. Comparatively, Asda’s 68-item basket cost around £134.89, while Tesco Clubcard members paid £135.84 or £139.12 without a Clubcard.
