    “Majority of Adults Failing to Meet Exercise Goals”

    A significant portion of adults are failing to meet the recommended exercise guidelines due to time constraints and demanding work schedules. The NHS suggests that individuals aged up to 64 should engage in a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity activities like brisk walking or cycling, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activities such as running every week.

    A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that 55% are not meeting these exercise recommendations. About 35% of adults are engaging in less than 60 minutes of physical activity per week, which is less than half of the recommended duration, while 15% are not exercising at all.

    Many individuals cite lack of time and motivation as reasons for not exercising. The most common excuses include being too tired, weather conditions being too extreme, and even household chores taking precedence over physical activity.

    A study conducted by Citroën found that the average British adult spends around six hours per day being sedentary and only manages approximately 6,500 steps daily.

    To address this issue, Citroën has collaborated with Alex Bell, a 2021 Olympic finalist and current British 5km road champion, along with her coach Andrew Henderson. Together, they have developed the ‘Charge Up In 30 Guide’, a 30-minute workout routine that can be completed in the time it takes to charge an electric vehicle.

    Greg Taylor, managing director of Citroën UK, emphasized the importance of prioritizing health and fitness despite busy schedules. He highlighted the significance of dedicating even just 30 minutes to physical activity each day.

    Furthermore, a survey conducted by OnePoll found that 91% of parents actively encourage their children to be more physically active, with 50% expressing concerns about their children’s exercise levels. Running, playing football, and dancing were among the favorite activities for children.

    While more than two-thirds of parents exercise with their children, 22% find exercising alone more enjoyable. Taylor emphasized the benefits of family exercise, suggesting that it fosters healthy habits, mutual interests, and bonding over shared activities.

    The ‘Charge Up In 30 Guide’ is designed for the entire family, offering exercise variations for all age groups. Establishing a routine where families set aside time for physical activity can aid in developing healthier habits and strengthening family bonds.
