In high school, Dylan Cease was more inclined towards theatre than art. Nevertheless, the Toronto Blue Jays’ prominent pitcher has had his artwork featured at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The AGO shop has introduced a limited edition retail collection showcasing Cease’s painting, which pays homage to Toronto and is currently exhibited in Walker Court. The collection comprises prints, postcards, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and totes, with all proceeds earmarked to support the AGO’s philanthropic endeavors.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, Cease remarked, “I never pursued art during my high school days as I was more focused on theatre. Hence, I can only speculate what my teachers would have thought about my artwork. They probably have various critiques, but that’s just how it is.”
During Cease’s art presentation, children from summer camps were invited to listen in on his discussion.
Simultaneously, a queue of Blue Jays enthusiasts, spanning different age groups, extended nearly two blocks. Expressing his astonishment, Cease commented, “Witnessing the long line and media presence is truly surreal. It feels much bigger than I had anticipated.
“I never imagined I would be involved in something like this.”

Commencing his artistic endeavors in 2022, Cease has previously created artwork for Michael King’s charity, a former teammate from San Diego. Moreover, the Toronto-themed piece is proudly displayed in the office of Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Regarding his creative process, Cease shared, “My teammates often suggest painting images of myself pitching, but that’s not my forte. I lean towards abstract creations due to my limited artistic skills, yet I make the most out of it.”
Envisioning spending a significant portion of his thirties in Toronto, the 30-year-old pitcher signed a lucrative seven-year, $210 million US contract as a free agent during the recent winter.
