At the Montreal Elite16 tournament, the Canadian beach volleyball team of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal on their home turf.
The duo, who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, staged a comeback against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, winning by scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to secure a spot on the podium.
Wilkerson stood out with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points to the victory.
The match had to be paused due to adverse weather conditions before resuming.
Prior to their bronze medal win, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson faced a defeat in the semifinals, losing to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta in a close match with scores of 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7.
Despite falling short of a three-peat, the Canadian pair later went on to secure the bronze medal against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann.
In 2023 and 2025, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson claimed the Montreal titles, adding to their Olympic silver from the Paris Games.
Canadian Men’s Victory
Meanwhile, Canada’s duo of Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett fought back to claim the bronze medal in the men’s category.
Against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen, the Ontario pair lost the first set but bounced back to win the next two sets, securing the victory with scores of 16-21, 28-26, and 15-12.
Earlier in the tournament, Schachter and Pickett caused an upset by defeating the top-ranked pair to reach the semifinals.
Although they fell short in the semifinals, losing to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein, they managed to secure their first podium finish together at home.
