In celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Tragically Hip’s final performance, CBC will re-air the concert recording on August 22. The broadcast, titled “The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration,” will be shown nationwide on CBC-TV at 7 p.m. local time/8 p.m. AT/8:30 NT, and at 7 p.m. ET on CBC Gem and CBC Music’s YouTube. The re-airing will commence with a brief film, “A Beautiful Thing,” created by Mike Downie, Gord Downie’s brother. This film includes exclusive tour footage and interviews with prominent Canadians reflecting on the impact of The Hip.

A special three-day celebration will commence in Kingston, Ontario, on August 20, marking the hometown of The Hip. Various official screenings and community events will take place not only in Kingston but also across provinces like Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and even internationally.

Numerous venues outside Kingston, such as breweries, theatres, community halls, and bars, will host public screenings of “The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration” on August 22. This includes locations in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and even internationally.

The re-airing of “The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration” on CBC will be commercial-free and will begin with a special introduction by Mike Downie. This introduction, titled “A Beautiful Thing,” offers an inside look at the band and features testimonials from notable Canadians about the significance of The Tragically Hip’s last concert in Kingston.
