British authorities have journeyed to India in pursuit of a fugitive spouse accused of the murder of his wife in the UK. The victim, Harshita Brella, aged 24, was found strangled at her residence in Northamptonshire and later discovered in a vehicle in Ilford, East London. Prior to her tragic death, Harshita had sought assistance from law enforcement, reporting abuse by her husband, Pankaj Lamba.

In an effort to locate Lamba, detectives visited India in July to engage with Harshita’s family and return her personal effects. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is currently reviewing Northamptonshire Police’s interactions with the deceased woman. Lamba, aged 23, reportedly departed for India from Heathrow airport just before Harshita’s body was located.

During their investigation, UK authorities determined that Lamba withdrew funds from an ATM in Gurugram, India. Harshita’s family expressed frustration with the lack of information provided by Northamptonshire police and have initiated legal action in Delhi to prompt government intervention.

Despite the complexities of the case, the Crown Prosecution Service pressed murder charges against Lamba in connection to Harshita’s demise. Detective Superintendent Johnny Campbell expressed determination to secure justice for Harshita, emphasizing ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrator. Harshita’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, recalled her daughter’s anguish and fear prior to the tragedy, highlighting the need for closure and accountability in the face of such a devastating loss.
