The cost of a TV licence is set to increase from £174.50 to £180 starting in April. A TV licence is required to watch or record live TV, as well as any content, whether live or catch-up, on BBC iPlayer. If you solely watch catch-up shows on streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, a TV licence is not necessary.
However, if you access live shows through these platforms, a TV licence is needed. Failure to comply could result in a fine of up to £1,000. In case you no longer require your TV licence before it expires, you may be eligible for a refund if there is at least one month remaining on it. Refunds are also available for individuals eligible for an over 75 or blind concession.
