“Wanted Thief Arrested at Winter Olympics Return”

After evading Italian authorities for 16 years, a thief was apprehended upon returning to his country to support the Winter Olympics. The man from Slovakia came back to attend his national ice hockey team’s game at the event.

Despite his anonymity, the 44-year-old was intercepted by the police before reaching the arena, as he had an outstanding arrest warrant dating back to 2010. The warrant was related to multiple shop thefts he allegedly committed, and authorities stated that he has 11 months and seven days to serve in prison.

Law enforcement managed to locate him when he checked into a guesthouse on the outskirts of Milan, opting to return to Italy despite being a wanted individual.

The man’s intention was to attend the ice hockey event at the Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena on Wednesday evening, but he was arrested before he could do so. Subsequently, he was taken to the central San Vittore Prison, while Slovakia’s team achieved a surprising victory over Finland in their Olympics debut.

Following their bronze win in Beijing four years ago during the NHL player ban, Slovakia returned to the Winter Games after an absence since Sochi 2014.

The ongoing Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics has seen noteworthy events, including Lindsey Vonn’s unfortunate crash and Jake Paul’s fiancée, Jutta Leerdam, upgrading her silver medal to gold in an intense speed skating competition.

Team GB has yet to secure a medal, but prospects remain high, particularly with world champion Matt Weston poised for a gold medal in the upcoming skeleton final.

Viewers can catch over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Access to TNT Sports 2, the dedicated channel for continuous Olympic coverage, is available with a £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription throughout the games.
