An 11-year-old boy fell victim to a school employee who engaged in inappropriate behavior by sending the child an excessive amount of texts and luring him with gifts.
Alyson Cranick, a 44-year-old woman and mother of two, enticed the young boy to meet with her on multiple occasions. Allegedly, Cranick met with the child 11 times, driving him to various locations where she engaged in inappropriate conduct with him inside her car. The situation escalated when Cranick coerced the child to leave his home after midnight on multiple occasions in 2022. During these encounters, Cranick provided the boy with caffeinated drinks to keep him awake and gifted him items such as AirPods and a pellet gun.
The troubling situation began with Cranick contacting the boy via text and Snapchat, later transitioning their conversations to Discord after discovering that a family member monitored the child’s social media interactions.
According to the US Attorney’s Office District of Connecticut, Cranick bombarded the boy with over 4,700 messages on Discord between July and October 2022.
In a disturbing turn of events, Cranick even crafted a bracelet for the child bearing the acronym “BFFLWB,” which stands for “Best Friends for Life With Benefits,” as per an arrest warrant. The child ceased communication with Cranick after feeling emotionally manipulated into spending more time with her, as reported by law enforcement.
Cranick, identified as a sex offender, was arrested on November 14, 2023, and has remained in custody since November 28 of the same year. She faced federal charges in July 2024 and is scheduled for sentencing on February 12, 2026, potentially facing a minimum of 10 years in prison and the possibility of a life sentence.
Following her arrest, Cranick was terminated from her position as an administrative assistant at E.O. Smith High School in Mansfield, Connecticut, in September 2023.
The FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Connecticut State Police’s Eastern District Major Crime Unit conducted the investigation into this former school employee’s despicable actions.
This distressing case is reminiscent of another incident involving a teacher who allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student and subsequently harassed him after the relationship ended.
Teresa Whalin, a 28-year-old teacher, is accused of partaking in a sexual relationship and exchanging explicit images with the teenager, starting in April 2023. The student reportedly faced mental health challenges following the alleged incidents.
According to an affidavit, the student described the relationship as “dating,” with both parties exchanging Snapchat messages, dining together, and spending time in the teacher’s classroom.
After the student cut off contact, the teacher allegedly began stalking him, struggling with the breakup, according to law enforcement.
