Trump Targets BBC with Billion-Dollar Lawsuit

Former President Donald Trump has announced his intention to file a lawsuit against the BBC, seeking damages ranging between one and five billion dollars. This decision follows the BBC’s apology regarding allegations of editing his speech before the January 6th events at the US Capitol in a manner that was deemed misleading. Despite the broadcaster’s refusal to compensate Trump over the program, which was not aired in the US, Trump remains resolute in his legal pursuit.

During a conversation with a reporter on Air Force One en route to Florida, Trump stated, “We’ll sue them for anywhere between a billion and five billion dollars, probably sometime next week.” He emphasized feeling compelled to take legal action, citing the BBC’s admission of altering his statements as a form of deception. However, it has been clarified that none of the speech excerpts broadcast by the BBC were fabricated; they were all complete sentences spoken by the President during his speech on January 6th, 2021.

Despite various courts and the US House of Representatives acknowledging Trump’s speech as contributing to inciting violence during the Capitol riots, Trump has accused the BBC of manipulating footage to misrepresent his words. He expressed disbelief at the alleged manipulation, claiming that different words were used, significantly altering the meaning of his speech.

In a separate incident, Trump criticized CBS for settling a lawsuit without issuing an apology, after he accused the network of biased editing during an interview. Referring to the BBC as “fake news,” Trump highlighted the outrage among the people of the UK over the situation.
