Legendary music producer and co-founder of Buggles, Trevor Horn, surprised fans with an unexpected performance alongside rising artist Sophie Grey at O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. The duo delighted the audience by performing the iconic hit “Video Killed the Radio Star,” receiving praise on social media for their impromptu collaboration.
Their rendition of the song blended Sophie’s Retro Electro style with the classic new-wave vibe, creating a standout moment in her set. Following the live performance, Sophie released a new version of “Video Killed the Radio Star” with a futuristic synth production and nostalgic elements.
Sophie, a classically-trained pianist and keyboardist who studied at the University of Southern California, expressed that the song remains timeless as history repeats itself and electronic music resurges. The original track by The Buggles was famously the first music video played on MTV in 1981, establishing its place in music history.
Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes formed The Buggles in the late 70s, with “Video Killed the Radio Star” topping the charts in 1979. Horn later produced Yes’s Grammy Award-winning album “90125” in 1983, solidifying his place in the music industry.
Horn’s unexpected performance with Sophie Grey precedes his upcoming tour, where he will be performing in Newcastle, Manchester, and London. Meanwhile, Sophie continues her tour, having recently opened for artists like Shaggy and Marianas Trench.
