A former TikTok personality involved in a fatal crash resulting in the deaths of her mother’s lover and his friend at high speed had her prison sentence reduced after an appeal. Mahek Bukhari, 22 at the time of the incident, was initially sentenced to a minimum of 31 years and eight months in September 2023 for two counts of murder. However, the sentence was later shortened to 26 years and 285 days by appeal judges citing her young age at the time of the crime.

Mahek, from Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, collaborated with her mother, Ansreen Bukhari, to harm Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin and Saqib Hussain after Saqib threatened to expose his affair with Ansreen using explicit materials. Ansreen received a 27-year prison term that remains unchanged.

During the review, it was noted that the manslaughter sentences given to Natasha Akhtar, Ameer Jamal, and Sanaf Gulamustafa were deemed excessive. Their sentences were reduced by two years each as the court recognized their minor roles in the incident.

The court emphasized that the car chase posed a significant risk of harm, and all involved should have been aware of the potential consequences. The judge’s handling of the case was criticized for not adequately considering the mitigating circumstances, resulting in excessively harsh sentences.

The trial in 2023 also led to life sentences for Rekhan Karwan and Raees Jamal, who were found guilty of murder. Prosecutors characterized the crash as a premeditated act driven by emotions of love, obsession, and extortion.

The relationship between Saqib and Ansreen started as casual but escalated, leading to blackmail attempts when Ansreen tried to end it. The fatal encounter occurred when Hashim and Saqib met Mahek and her mother under false pretenses, resulting in a deadly confrontation orchestrated by Mahek and her accomplices.

Following the crash, Mahek and her mother were swiftly apprehended at their residence. During the investigation, Mahek initially tried to shift blame onto Saqib, painting him as a dangerous individual. However, evidence pointed to their involvement in planning and executing the fatal collision.

The lengthy trial concluded with convictions for multiple defendants, highlighting the tragic consequences of a situation that spiraled out of control. Mahek, known for her social media presence, faced a significant fall from grace as the details of the case unfolded.
