Anthony Joshua has returned to England after a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. The British heavyweight boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday night and was then taken to his residence for further recovery, as per reports from The Sun.
The funeral for his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London, with a ‘janaza prayer service’ for close family and friends. Joshua is reportedly uncertain about attending the funeral due to concerns that his presence may cause disruptions.
In a twist of fate, Joshua narrowly escaped the accident by switching seats just before the fatal journey that led to the deaths of his friends. The driver of the car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Kayode’s lawyer stated that the incident was an accident, emphasizing that the brakes allegedly failed.
Kayode was driving Joshua and his companions in a black Lexus Jeep when the collision occurred with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Following his discharge from a hospital in Lagos, Kayode provided an official statement about the events leading up to the crash. The trial for Kayode’s case has been adjourned until January 20.
After being released from the hospital, Joshua paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home before their bodies were repatriated to the United Kingdom. Additionally, Joshua’s mother accompanied him to the funeral home to pay her respects to the deceased individuals.
