Failed attempt by Thomas Matthew Crooks to assassinate Donald Trump revealed his unusual interest in unconventional fetishes, particularly muscular women. Crooks targeted then-presidential candidate Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania in July 2024, grazing Trump’s ear before being killed. The FBI discovered Crooks’ online searches and activity on DevianArt, where he viewed animated images of strong women. This insight shed light on Crooks, who had no clear motives for the assassination attempt.

The FBI investigation confirmed Crooks acted alone, dispelling online conspiracy theories. Bureau director Kash Patel refuted claims of dishonesty made by conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, emphasizing the extensive nature of the investigation. Over 500 employees conducted around 1,000 interviews globally as part of the probe, which was a top priority for the agency.

Patel defended the FBI’s handling of the situation, stating that law enforcement had no prior knowledge of Crooks. The FBI also debunked theories of a second shooter and confirmed all rounds fired were recovered. Crooks used a .223 rifle in the attack on Trump, causing injuries that became significant during the 2024 presidential race.
