“UK Powerlist 2026 Reveals Top Influential Black Leaders”

The UK’s most influential Black individuals have been announced by the Powerlist 2026, recognizing leaders of African, African Caribbean, and African American descent who wield significant influence in the UK.

Securing the top spot is Afua Kyei, the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of the Bank of England. Kyei, a prominent figure in finance, is responsible for overseeing the financial governance of a £1 trillion balance sheet, spearheading funding reforms, and leading critical national infrastructure upgrades for Payments. She is also a vocal advocate for diversity and climate disclosure.

Expressing her gratitude, Kyei stated, “Being ranked Number One on the Powerlist in its 20th year is a tremendous honor. It is not just a personal achievement but a representation of visibility and potential. I am particularly thrilled to see recognition for someone in the public sector and financial services.”

She added, “When young individuals witness representation in spaces they may have never envisioned themselves in, it reshapes their beliefs on what is attainable. I aspire that my journey inspires others to pursue their aspirations and believe in their ability to reach the pinnacle.”

The Powerlist has served as a guiding light for the past two decades, and Kyei feels privileged to be part of its enduring legacy.

Following closely behind is Ian Wright, a former England and Arsenal footballer who has transitioned into a pundit and a proponent for equity in sports. Also making the top 10 are notable figures such as legendary makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur Dame Pat McGrath, renowned entrepreneur Steven Bartlett from Dragon’s Den, actor and philanthropist Idris Elba OBE, Emma Grede, CEO and Co-Founder of Good American, and Ije Nwokorie, CEO of Dr Martens.

The 20th anniversary of the Powerlist celebrates trailblazers who have shattered barriers, redefined success, and inspired future generations. The honorees will be feted at the Powerlist 2026 and Celebration of Black Excellence Awards at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London, co-hosted by Jeanette Kwakye MBE and Tim Campbell MBE.

Michael Eboda, CEO of Powerful Media Ltd, reflected on the evolution of the Powerlist since its inception in 2006, emphasizing its role in showcasing role models who can ignite inspiration in others. The 20th anniversary, marked by Afua Kyei’s top ranking, symbolizes the leadership, resilience, and vision that the Powerlist was designed to honor.
