Authorities have disclosed new information regarding the case of missing nine-year-old Melodee Buzzard, which has taken a troubling turn more than a fortnight since the search commenced. The quest for Melodee was triggered on October 14 following concerns raised by a school official about her prolonged absence.

Upon visiting the family residence, law enforcement officers engaged with Melodee’s mother, 35-year-old Ashlee Buzzard. Melodee was not present, and officials indicated that no credible account of her whereabouts was provided.

Recently published surveillance footage of Melodee, captured inside a car rental establishment in Santa Barbara on October 7, has been released by the police. This footage precedes her reported disappearance in Lompoc, approximately 55 miles away, by a week.

In the images, Melodee is depicted wearing a grey sweatshirt with the hood up, along with a wig that differs in color and style from her natural hair, as per a police statement. Investigators have noted that the wig could have been used to alter her appearance, mentioning that Ashlee, Melodee’s mother, is known to wear wigs.

Ashlee rented a white Chevrolet Malibu, as reported by the Los Angeles Times, and embarked on a three-day journey from Lompoc, California, to the Nebraska region with her daughter. Authorities are now focused on determining Melodee’s whereabouts during this trip and her current location.

The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office is collaborating in the search effort and has affirmed that Melodee may have been with her mother until October 7, possibly traveling as far as Nebraska. The rental car is no longer in Ashlee’s possession, and she has not cooperated with authorities in providing information about her daughter.

Melodee is considered at risk due to her young age and prolonged absence. Law enforcement officials are diligently pursuing leads and are seeking assistance from the public to locate Melodee and ensure her safe return.

Sheriff Bill Brown of Santa Barbara County expressed determination in finding Melodee and emphasized the community’s shared concern for her safety. There is hope that Melodee may be with someone unaware of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, possibly an extended family member or friend.

Described as approximately 4 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 60 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, Melodee’s whereabouts remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies.
