A tennis enthusiast who gained online fame for supporting Emma Raducanu has been ejected from the Australian Open for disruptive behavior. James Bray made headlines when Raducanu acknowledged his enthusiastic support after defeating Mananchaya Sawangkaew.
During the match, Bray, donning an ‘Australia’ tank top, affectionately referred to Raducanu as ‘Raddo’. In her post-match interview, Raducanu thanked him and extended an open invitation to attend all her matches in the future.
Despite Raducanu’s plea to locate him, Bray’s cheering for Alex de Minaur against Frances Tiafoe was deemed too loud and he was asked to leave the Rod Laver Arena during Friday’s event.
Bray shared the incident on his Instagram, showing police instructing him to depart for 24 hours and issuing a fine. Despite the situation, he humorously commented on being removed from the tournament, expressing his love for tennis.
After being escorted out, Bray reflected on the experience, mentioning the unexpected turn of events and his respectful behavior during the match. Tennis Australia confirmed that Bray had received multiple warnings before his removal due to disruptive conduct.
Victoria Police reported that a total of 21 people were evicted from the tennis precinct for various incidents, including disruptive behavior. They highlighted the overall positive crowd behavior at the Australian Open and anticipated a successful remainder of the event.
