A young woman named Bella Culley, who is pregnant, is coming back to the UK today after receiving approval to board a direct plane. Bella, 19, was detained in Georgia on charges of drug smuggling but was released due to compassionate reasons. She will be accompanied on the journey by her mother, Lyanne Kennedy, and they are expected to arrive at London Luton Airport via an easyJet flight at 7 pm. Despite concerns about her pregnancy, her lawyer confirmed that she can travel without needing special permission, as she is not beyond the standard 36-week flying restriction.

Hailing from Billingham in Teesside, Culley had been awaiting sentencing in Georgia for allegedly attempting to smuggle 12kg of marijuana and 2kg of hashish in her luggage at Tbilisi international airport in May. During her time in prison, she reported being subjected to harsh conditions, including having to improvise meals and sanitation.

Initially facing a two-year jail term, her sentence was reduced to just under six months following negotiations between prosecutors and her defense team. The decision to release her early was influenced by her youth and pregnancy status. Prosecutors emphasized her cooperation and good behavior during her time in custody.

Reflecting on her unexpected release, Culley expressed relief and gratitude as she emerged from the court with her lawyer. When asked about her prison experience, she deferred to her mother before swiftly departing. She is now scheduled to be driven back to her residence in the North East after landing at Luton Airport.
