Logan Taylor, a Nova Scotian, has always been larger than life, standing over six feet tall even before his 10th birthday. Growing up in Lunenburg, Taylor’s size set him apart on the soccer field, leading him to transition to football at the encouragement of a local coach. Now 24 years old, Taylor is a six-foot-seven-inch, 312-pound offensive lineman living in Los Angeles and embarking on his first NFL training camp with the Chargers after being picked in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.

Taylor’s journey to the NFL has taken him from his seaside hometown through various locations, including Timberlea, N.S., Virginia, and Massachusetts, as he pursued his football dreams. While Nova Scotia has produced hockey stars like Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon, NFL players hailing from the region are rare, with only a few, including Tyrone Williams and Steve Morley.

Facing challenges due to the absence of a football program at his high school in Bridgewater, Taylor made the move to Timberlea for his grade 10 and 11 years. Kathy and Brian Mason, his billet parents, supported and encouraged him, despite some doubters along the way. Described as a gentle giant, Taylor credits the Masons as two of his four parents, shaping his growth and determination.

After attending a boarding school in Virginia for his senior year and pursuing post-secondary studies at the University of Virginia and Boston College, Taylor fulfilled his NFL dream when the Chargers selected him in the draft. His dedication and hard work have been evident throughout his journey, with the Masons by his side during the draft day celebrations.

Now settled in Los Angeles, Taylor navigates a demanding schedule with early mornings, team meetings, practices, and evening walk-throughs. While he enjoys the city’s amenities, Taylor misses his rural pursuits like four-wheeling, hunting, and fishing. With competition for a spot on the active roster stiff, Taylor remains focused on proving his worth and being a role model for aspiring football players from Nova Scotia.
