A cutting-edge city project worth £160 million is taking shape on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, aiming to rival top European holiday destinations like Spain, Italy, and Greece.
Known as New El-Alamein City, the development is being touted as the fresh face of the Egyptian Riviera, offering pristine white-sand beaches, clear waters, and pleasant November temperatures around 24°C.
This ambitious initiative seeks to elevate Egypt’s North West Coast into a hub of global tourism and contemporary urban lifestyle. Situated within the Marsa Matruh governorate, approximately 60 kilometers from the Alexandria-Matrouh international highway, the city spans nearly 49,000 feddans (about 200 million square meters).
Upon completion, New El-Alamein City is projected to accommodate nearly three million inhabitants, positioning it as one of the most advanced cities in the Middle East. The initial phase of the project, already in progress, includes residences for approximately 400,000 people.
Egyptian authorities have revealed extensive plans for New El-Alamein, envisioning a fully integrated city incorporating residential, cultural, tourist, industrial, and research sectors. The development will feature upscale hotels, luxury resorts, a private university, and dedicated structures for the President and Cabinet.
Infrastructure essentials such as water treatment facilities, sewage systems, and smart power grids are being constructed through collaboration between Egypt’s Urban Communities Authority and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
New El-Alamein City will be segmented into tourism, historical, and residential zones, offering a range of accommodations from high-end resorts to modern apartments. The seafront will host an expansive international promenade with various dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
Central to the city will be the City of Culture and Arts, a sprawling complex featuring a theater, opera house, cinema, and production studios, positioning New El-Alamein as a cultural hub and tourist attraction.
The project aims to alleviate population congestion in Cairo, providing a sustainable urban alternative supported by intelligent transportation systems and renewable energy sources. Over 30 developers have been authorized to construct more than 30,000 hotel rooms in the ongoing first phase.
Deemed a transformative endeavor for the Mediterranean region, New El-Alamein City aims to redefine Egypt’s northern coastline, showcasing its ability to compete with Europe’s coastal gems in terms of sunshine, luxury, and contemporary living within a short distance from the UK.
