The Montreal Victoire team’s missing Walter Cup championship trophy has been located after going astray during transportation and has been returned to the team, as announced by the Professional Women’s Hockey League on Monday. The PWHL expressed gratitude for the assistance in locating the trophy and acknowledged the concern and support of their fans.

The trophy disappeared last week when it did not reach its destination in Lethbridge, Alberta, where it was scheduled to be with Victoire forward Dara Greig. Although a container arrived, it did not contain the trophy that was supposed to be inside, according to the PWHL.

The league humorously noted that even the Walter Cup can have its own offseason adventure and looks forward to the Victoire team continuing their celebrations with the cup. Details about where the trophy was found or the circumstances of its disappearance remain unclear, with the PWHL stating that the cup had been “lost in shipment.” Last week, the league had reported collaborating with the shipping company to locate the missing trophy.

It is important to note that the missing trophy was not the one awarded on the ice to the championship-winning teams, as that one is permanently displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The trophy in question was the team’s replica “keeper” cup, a copy of the original sterling silver Tiffany & Co.-designed Walter Cup, weighing approximately 16 kilograms and standing at about 61 centimeters tall.

The Montreal team secured the cup by defeating Ottawa in Game 4 of a best-of-five series in May, becoming the first Canadian champion in the PWHL, with Minnesota having won the league’s first two titles. The trophy is named after PWHL founder and primary benefactor Mark Walter and his wife, Kimbra. Walter is the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and recently agreed to sell his controlling interest in the Los Angeles Lakers.
