Four years following the tragic death of Sidhu Moose Wala, the renowned Punjabi rapper is set to make a comeback in a unique form – as a hologram. Moose Wala’s team has announced the launch of the Signed to God hologram world tour, commencing in Toronto. The event, scheduled for October 8 at Scotiabank Arena, will showcase a digital resurrection of the late artist through “3D holographic projections synchronized with his original vocals, cinematic visuals, and stage effects,” as highlighted on the official website.
Born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, Moose Wala gained prominence in 2017 with his hit single “So High,” which he recorded during his time as an international student in Brampton, Ontario. His distinctive fusion of bhangra and hip-hop genres garnered a substantial fan base, particularly among the sizable Punjabi communities in Canada and the United Kingdom.
Tragically, Moose Wala met his untimely demise at the age of 28 in Punjab, India, on May 29, 2022, in a fatal shooting incident linked to an escalating inter-gang feud, as per Indian law enforcement.
Despite his controversial image, stemming partly from the provocative content of his lyrics, Moose Wala’s music continues to resonate globally. His posthumous single “Barota,” featuring the Kidd and Sweetaj Brar, debuted at No. 36 on the Billboard Canada Hot 100 chart, while his subsequent track “Drippy,” featuring a verse by Toronto rapper AR Paisley, entered the charts at No. 9.
The Signed to God world tour is anticipated to include performances in Punjab, London, and Los Angeles, with specific dates yet to be disclosed. Tickets for the Toronto show will be available for presale starting on August 25, followed by a general public release on August 26. Marketed as a “first-ever hologram tour,” the event aims to offer a groundbreaking experience, although hologram concerts have been witnessed in Canada previously.
Notably, past hologram shows in Canada have featured iconic artists like Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly on their Rock n’ Roll Dream tour in 2019, incorporating remastered audio and live performances. Similarly, Our Lady Peace’s 2022 tour, named the Wonderful Future Theatrical Experience, integrated holographic elements, including a digital representation of futurist Ray Kurzweil delivering a monologue.
