“Former Saskatoon Police Sergeant Appeals Dismissal Over Hells Angels Tie”

A former sergeant from Saskatoon Police, Robbie Taylor, is currently appealing his dismissal after being terminated due to his association with a Hells Angels affiliate. The decision to fire Taylor was made by Police Chief Cam McBride in March 2025, citing his unsuitability for the role based on his friendship with the biker gang member.

During an appeal hearing before a three-member panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission in Saskatoon, Taylor’s legal representatives, Scott Hopley and Brian Pfefferle, argued that the ruling to uphold his dismissal should be reversed. They contended that while there might have been grounds for discipline, Taylor was still capable of continuing his duties as a police officer.

An important issue raised during the appeal process was an allegation of an abuse of process, which had also been brought up in a prior weeklong hearing in September 2025. This allegation stemmed from a complaint received in 2023 by then-Police Chief Troy Cooper, regarding Taylor’s involvement in a traffic stop concerning his friend, whose identity is protected by a publication ban.

Although Cooper chose not to take any disciplinary action following the complaint, Taylor’s legal team only learned about this decision during McBride’s testimony at the September hearing. This lack of prior disclosure was deemed unfair and an abuse of process by Hopley.

The Saskatoon Police Service’s lawyer, Ashley Smith, argued that there was no physical document to provide Taylor’s legal team regarding the decision not to pursue disciplinary action. Despite acknowledging the relevance of the information, Smith maintained that there was no tangible form available for disclosure.

Smith further contended that Taylor should have been aware that maintaining a friendship with an individual tied to organized crime was unacceptable. She emphasized that due to the breach of trust between McBride and Taylor, as well as the necessity to uphold public trust in the police service, dismissal was the appropriate course of action.

Following the proceedings, the Saskatchewan Police Commission panel, comprised of Aaron Fox, Leanne Lang, and John Ajioritis, reserved their final decision on the matter.
