“Everyday Heroes Honored at 2024 Pride of Britain Awards”

An individual who supports a football club managed to raise more than £260,000 for charity through the sale of samosas. Another hero, a mother, bravely jumped into the sea to rescue a 10-year-old boy from drowning. Additionally, a five-year-old girl exhibited remarkable bravery in rebuilding her life after losing both her legs.

These exceptional individuals were among the distinguished winners recognized at the 2024 Pride of Britain Awards. Selected from a vast pool of public nominations, these everyday heroes were acknowledged at a prestigious ceremony held in London, co-hosted by Ashley Banjo and Carol Vorderman.

The event took an exciting turn when P&O Cruises, the newly announced headline sponsor for the Pride of Britain Awards, generously gifted each of the 12 winners a cruise holiday. This provided them with an opportunity to embark on a delightful and unforgettable trip with their families.

We had the chance to speak with three of these heroes who enjoyed a 14-night Caribbean voyage aboard Britannia, exploring eight picturesque islands and indulging in top-notch entertainment.

    Aiyla Mota, Child of Courage

At the age of four, Aiyla Mota fell critically ill with what initially appeared to be a common childhood infection. However, the infection quickly developed into sepsis, leading to multiple organ failure. To save her life, doctors had to amputate both her legs and five fingers.

Despite this harrowing experience, Aiyla, now five years old, has displayed extraordinary resilience. Her unwavering courage and positive attitude have astounded those around her, resulting in her receiving a Pride of Britain Award and becoming one of the youngest winners in the history of the award.

Her mother, Eulanda, aged 28, from Middlesex, expressed, “Aiyla has always been a lively child, and despite her challenges, she has retained her spark. If anything, she is now more vibrant, confident, and spirited than ever. She’s like Aiyla multiplied by 100!”

Following the award presentation from P&O Cruises, Aiyla and her family journeyed to the Caribbean, accompanied by Aiyla’s grandmother, Trisha, and Eulanda’s partner, Louis. They relished exploring Britannia’s 27 dining establishments and bars, eight live performance venues, and four swimming pools.

“The cruise was an incredible experience, and I am immensely grateful to P&O Cruises for this fantastic opportunity,” shared Eulanda. “It was our first cruise, and we were unsure of what to expect.

“One surprising aspect was that at times, you could forget you were on a ship due to the plethora of activities available.

“Aiyla particularly enjoyed the children’s club, the diverse entertainment, and staying up late! During our island visits, she loved the beaches and exploring the rainforest.

“For me, visiting Barbados held great significance. It is my ancestral home, but I had never visited before. Stepping onto its shores, I felt blessed to be there and to be connected to my family’s roots. It was a very special moment for me.”
