This method involves flipping a fitted sheet upside down, filling the edges with pillows, and layering duvets to create a cozy, nest-like structure reminiscent of a jacket potato.

    While the potato bed appears inviting, can it genuinely aid in achieving better sleep? Hannah Shore, the Head of Sleep Science at Mattress Online, shared insights on the trend, highlighting its potential benefits and drawbacks. Shore mentioned that individuals who enjoy feeling enveloped and warm might find it easier to relax and fall asleep in a potato bed due to the cocooning effect of the cushions, akin to the sensation of being hugged or using a weighted blanket. The gentle pressure from the setup can release feel-good hormones, promoting relaxation and facilitating sleep onset.

    However, for those who dislike feeling confined or having restricted airflow, the potato bed may not be as comfortable. Shore cautioned that the added pillows and blankets could hinder airflow, leading to increased warmth that may disrupt the body’s natural cooling process during sleep. Moreover, the lack of proper support from piling up extra bedding items could contribute to morning discomfort and body aches.

    Shore concluded that while the potato bed offers a cozy and snug setting akin to a nest bed, it might not be the optimal choice for a restful night’s sleep. Instead, she suggested considering a weighted blanket as an alternative. Weighted blankets provide pressure and warmth without compromising support or airflow, mimicking the sensation of being embraced, similar to the experience in a potato bed.
