“Canada’s Erin Brooks Clinches Back-to-Back WSL Wins”

Erin Brooks of Canada emerged victorious at the Fiji Pro competition, securing her second consecutive World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour win. The 19-year-old claimed the title after Australian competitor Isabella Nichols withdrew from the final due to an ankle injury sustained during her semifinal match against Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica.

Expressing her elation, Brooks stated, “I feel incredibly amazing, enjoying the best time at these last two events. It’s unbelievable to achieve two consecutive wins at the beginning of this year, which seemed impossible initially. I’m overjoyed.” She also expressed disappointment for Nichols, hoping for her swift recovery and praising her performance in the past events.

Brooks made history in Fiji two years ago as a wild-card entry, securing her first Tour victory by defeating Olympic silver medalist Tatiana Weston-Webb in the final. This victory marked her as the first Canadian surfer to win a CT event. In the recent Tahiti Pro competition, held at Teahupo’o, she overcame Israel’s Anat Lelior in the final, becoming the youngest winner of that event.

Following her consecutive wins, Brooks has climbed from 19th to the eighth position in the world women’s rankings. This remarkable achievement has been hailed by Surf Canada’s director-chairman, Lionel F. Conacher, who commended Brooks for competing and triumphing against Olympic champions and world leaders, reflecting her exceptional talent and the growth of surfing in Canada.

Despite facing challenges with her Canadian citizenship application, Brooks eventually gained citizenship in 2024. This process impacted her Olympic qualifying opportunities, limiting her participation to the ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico. As a result, she missed out on the Olympic surfing competition in Tahiti.

Brooks showcased her skills at the Fiji Pro by starting with a perfect 10-point ride in the opening round against Australia’s Sophie McCulloch, achieving an 18.00 heat total. Progressing through the rounds, she defeated American Caroline Marks, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, before overcoming five-time world champion Carissa Moore to secure a spot in the final.

With her recent successes, Brooks moves forward with confidence to the next WSL event, the Lexus Trestles Pro, scheduled in San Clemente, Calif., from September 11-20, as the ninth stop on the 2026 tour calendar.
