Serena Williams is set to partner with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles as she makes her comeback at the U.S. Open. The U.S. Tennis Association recently announced that they have granted Williams and Alcaraz a wild card entry into the tournament’s mixed doubles main draw, which kicks off on Tuesday with a prize pool of $1 million US.

This marks Williams’ first appearance at the U.S. Open since 2022, as the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion made her return to the sport earlier this summer. Alcaraz expressed his excitement by posting on X, using a fire emoji and tagging Williams.

While Williams will not compete in singles at the New York event, she teamed up with her sister Venus for doubles at the Cincinnati Open after sustaining a knee injury during her singles match at Wimbledon. Alcaraz, a two-time U.S. Open men’s champion ranked No. 2, also confirmed his participation in the singles competition after recovering from a wrist injury that sidelined him since April.

The USTA introduced changes to the mixed doubles tournament last year, aiming to attract top singles players to the event. Notable pairings in this year’s mixed doubles include Americans Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz, Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul, and Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik, who secured wild card entries into the main draw.

As the competition field evolves due to player withdrawals, updates include Diana Shnaider seeking a new partner after Daniil Medvedev’s withdrawal. The USTA also announced additional wild card entries for Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, as well as Peyton Stearns and Christian Harrison, to compete in an eight-team qualifying tournament to finalize the field.
