Despite the lack of evidence supporting Trump’s claims, his influential position allows such misinformation to quickly propagate, potentially leading to real-world consequences. In response, healthcare professionals and political leaders worldwide swiftly rejected Trump’s vaccine assertions.
During an ITV appearance, Labour’s Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized the importance of trusting medical experts over political figures like Trump. He dismissed the link between paracetamol use during pregnancy and autism, urging the public to rely on guidance from British healthcare professionals.
Discussing her stance on vaccinations, the 90-year-old former Bake Off judge revealed her intention to receive all recommended vaccinations, regardless of Trump’s statements. Mary, who battled polio at 13, shared her experience in a 2013 autobiography, highlighting the impact it had on her and her family.
Despite the challenges she faced, Mary considers herself fortunate, with polio affecting only her left side, resulting in a distinctive left hand. She expressed gratitude for not experiencing significant difficulties beyond minor physical differences.
The polio vaccine, introduced in the UK in the 1950s, is part of the routine childhood vaccination schedule recommended by the NHS. Mary’s advocacy for vaccination aligns with the NHS’s recent call for parents to ensure their children receive flu vaccinations, as flu cases surge, particularly among children.
England’s chief nursing officer, Duncan Barton, expressed concern over the early onset of flu this year, urging vaccination as the best defense against severe illness. Health minister Stephen Kinnock echoed the importance of adult vaccination to protect both individuals and the community.
