In partnership with Tesco Mobile, a campaign called The Family Chat has been launched to encourage families to engage in discussions about online device usage. The initiative aims to highlight available resources and support, including Tesco Mobile’s age-specific toolkits and assistance for parents and children.

Giovanna expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the campaign, noting that it provides valuable insights that can benefit her family. She emphasized the pressure parents often feel to have all the answers but acknowledged the value of utilizing Tesco Mobile’s resources and online platform to enhance their understanding of online safety practices.

The Fletchers have two other sons, aged seven and nine, who use tablets to communicate with family members, play games, and engage in video calls. When their eldest son transitioned to high school, they equipped him with a restricted smartphone to ensure he could contact them while implementing necessary safety measures. The couple maintains an ongoing dialogue with their children about the reasons behind these restrictions, fostering understanding and responsibility.

Recognizing the importance of limiting screen time and promoting healthy device usage habits, Giovanna highlighted their family’s practices of keeping phones out of bedrooms and refraining from using them during meals. She emphasized the gradual introduction of internet access to children based on their readiness, advocating for a phased approach.

To enhance online safety for children, several tips were provided, including setting up child accounts, ensuring correct age information, activating safety filters, utilizing parental controls, and maintaining open conversations about online activities.
