A driver facing charges in connection with the tragic car crash involving Anthony Joshua has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident resulted in the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, after their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos on December 29. Joshua survived the crash and was hospitalized for injuries.

The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, appeared in Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state near Lagos. The case has been adjourned to March 13, following a previous court appearance on January 20 where he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and reckless driving. Kayode, who was granted bail of approximately £2,600, is also accused of driving without due care and without a valid driver’s license, facing the possibility of a life sentence. Prosecutors have requested more time to gather evidence.

Joshua narrowly escaped death in the collision and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve. He has since returned to the UK for ongoing rehabilitation. Reflecting on the support he has received, Joshua expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and care during the tragic loss of his two friends.

The heavyweight boxer emphasized the impact of the loss, highlighting the close bond they shared both personally and professionally. Joshua vowed to honor his friends’ legacy and dreams, stating that he is committed to continuing their work.
