After operating for 46 years, a beloved hotel and restaurant have suddenly closed, much to the dismay of its loyal patrons. Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, has officially ceased operations. The establishment, which featured a 65-room hotel along St Michael’s Road by the canal, has laid off all its employees.
A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel entrance, signaling the end of an era. The extensive site, spanning nearly 14 acres, encompassed various amenities such as a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, a cricket ground, bowling green, and three car parks.
As per the Lancashire Post, the closure announcement stated: “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision was made after careful consideration, and we express our gratitude to our customers, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering support over the years. While the hamlet held significant meaning for many individuals, we are focused on concluding this chapter as we transition.”
Upset customers have taken to social media to share their memories at the venue. One individual mentioned, “Where my hubby proposed to me in 2012,” while another lamented, “I also got engaged here in 2015. Such a shame.” Another patron expressed hope for the site’s preservation, stating, “Sad that it’s gone, and hopefully someone will take it on and maintain its legacy.”
The Wilkinson family has managed the business since 1980 and listed it for sale last year, revealing an approximate net turnover of £4.2 million. The property, located near the A6 with easy access to popular destinations like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland, boasted 65 en suite guest rooms that attracted both leisure and commercial clientele.
Recognized for its unique charm throughout the North West of England, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet was a year-round hub of activity, with its food and beverage offerings particularly busy during summer and holiday seasons. The property had undergone extensive refurbishments and expansions over the years to cater to its diverse clientele and maintain its renowned status.
