Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious racing career on a high note by triumphing in the first leg of Brazil’s Triple Crown. Originally planning to retire on Champions Day at Ascot in October 2023, the 55-year-old had a change of heart and extended his career in the United States.
In November, Dettori announced that he would bid farewell to racing at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar before embarking on a brief farewell tour in South America. His final race at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro saw him clinch victory aboard Speak Alpha and Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas.
The win allowed Dettori to showcase his iconic flying dismount celebration one last time. Reflecting on his last race, he expressed his surprise and gratitude for winning a Group 1 event on his final day, labeling his career as “brilliant” and emotionally fulfilling.
Despite retiring from jockeying, Dettori revealed plans to remain active in the racing world as a global ambassador for Amo Racing under Kia Joorabchian. In a heartfelt social media post, he thanked his family, supporters, colleagues, and fans for their unwavering love and encouragement throughout his remarkable four-decade career.
Dettori reminisced about the incredible experiences, unforgettable memories, and exceptional horses he encountered during his time in the sport. He expressed deep appreciation for the continuous support of his fans, acknowledging their role in helping him live out his childhood dream.
