Poland and fellow NATO allies swiftly deployed fighter jets in response to a massive assault on Ukraine by Vladimir Putin, who unleashed a barrage of over 650 drones and 50 missiles overnight. The attacks caused extensive damage and widespread power outages across Ukraine.

Poland’s military raised its alert level, sending out fighter jets and early warning aircraft to protect its airspace and radar systems. The strikes by Russian forces resulted in casualties, including three fatalities, including a young girl, and injuries to 17 others, including six children, as reported by Kyiv authorities.

The onslaught also led to countrywide power disruptions, with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko pointing out that the attacks aimed to plunge Ukraine into darkness and disrupt essential services as winter approaches.

Near Ukraine’s border with Poland, communities came under attack, prompting Polish warplanes to be on standby in case missiles crossed into Polish territory. Polish operational command confirmed the deployment of allied air forces, with jets from Norway, Spain, and Turkey participating in the operations. German forces supported with a Patriot missile system.

The Russian offensive involved various lethal weapons, including air-launched missiles and drones, causing chaos and destruction in Ukrainian regions. Cities like Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Ivano-Frankivsk faced intense bombardment, leading to power outages and infrastructure damage.

In response to the escalating situation, Poland and NATO remained vigilant, with Polish Minister of Defence emphasizing the need for constant surveillance and readiness. The recent incidents follow previous airspace violations by Russian military jets, prompting concerns and calls for solidarity among NATO allies.

The Kremlin’s spokesperson accused NATO of being at war with Russia, alleging direct and indirect support to the Ukrainian government. These events underscore the ongoing tensions and challenges faced by the region amidst the conflict.
